Cam-sight, Cam-read and Cambridge Time Traveller Group working together to share the city’s past with the visually impaired.

The Cambridge Time Traveller Group is working in partnership with Cam-sight and Cam-read to help visually impaired people obtain access to the history of Cambridgeshire.

The Cambridge Time Traveller Group has added the option of audio to all articles on its website, so visually impaired people can hear the written article where they would not be able to read it. The website also offers the option to enlarge the text to make the letter sizes bigger and much easier to read.

The group is also working with Cam-read, supplying articles for Cam-mag, an audio magazine that is sent out throughout Cambridgeshire. The group is also supplying a one-hour special every three months, looking at Cambridge history. This will also be in audio form and sent out across Cambridgeshire through the Cam-read project. The group is also working on archiving Cam-mag on the Cambridge Time Traveller website so that it can be accessed by the community at a click of a button.

Cambridge Time Traveller Group Founder/Chairman Fonz Chamberlain said:

“I founded the Cambridge Time Traveller Group to help the community become involved with their local history. We have a radio show on 209radio, a website where the public can submit articles and pictures, we also have a history forum where members can chat and share memories and we help people with publications. The Cambridge Time Traveller Group is also keen to work in partnership with other Cambridgeshire groups and projects so that local history is accessible to everyone. Because of this dedication to forming partnerships we are pleased to be working with both Cam-sight and Cam-read to help visually impaired people in Cambridgeshire access the history of the area they live in, where they would have not been able to before now. Cam-sight and Cam-read both do wonderful work to help the visually impaired in Cambridgeshire and so much hard work goes on behind the scenes, and because of this the Cambridge Time Traveller Group is honoured to be working with both charity projects.”
